The Xerox Research Centre of Canada (XRCC) is the global materials research and development centre for Xerox Corporation. We have a 40 year history of taking materials from lab to market in a competitive technology environment. Our core expertise is the design, synthesis, formulation, and scale-up of advanced materials. We specialize in Process Engineering and Scale-Up, Technology Transfer, Synthesis, Formulation, Polymers, Composites, Coatings, Nanomaterials and Electronic Materials. Our group of ~100 staff consists of chemists, physicists, materials scientists, chemical engineers, and a dedicated support team from machinists to millwrights. XRCC’s 11,000 m2 facility includes wet laboratories for chemistry, physics, and materials science, as well as state-of-the-art characterization facilities including advanced equipment for microscopy, spectroscopy, thermal and mechanical analysis, surface science, abrasion and wear. Our process engineering and scale-up facilities include 930 m2 of bench scale engineering laboratories, including a new kilo lab facility and a 2,500 m2 chemical pilot plant with Class I Div. 2 and Class II Div. 1 capabilities. Our pilot manufacturing facility, with vessels sized from 20 L to 2,000 L, is flexible and modular to accommodate a variety of chemistries and processes.

Xerox Research Centre of Canada is a Tier 1 Member of the National Research Council of Canada’s Canadian Printed Electronics Consortium, a member of both the Canadian Printed Electronics Industry Association and Nano-Canada, and since 2006, has also collaborated on a variety of projects with NRC’s National Institute for Nanotechnology. We have recently partnered with the Green Centre Canada and the Peel RIC Centre, both located on the XRCC campus, to help commercialize new technologies and support promising Canadian start-ups.
Expertise: design, scale-up, and supply of electronic and specialty materials. Commercial Materials: conductive metal inks (including a variety of silver inks based on our own proprietary nanoparticle); semiconducting polymers; and printable organic dielectric materials. Services: device prototyping - printing Xerox electronic materials within and on objects.
Additive Manufacturing and 3D Scanning
Expertise: research and development in advanced materials for additive manufacturing. Specialty Materials: polymers, polymer composites, curable materials, and colourants. Services: multi-jet and aerosol jet printing of materials for fabricating 3D structures and printing on 3D objects.
Expertise: materials design, synthesis of small molecules and polymers, and formulations, including nanomaterials as well as experience in incorporation of carbon nanotubes and graphene in polymer composites; sustainable materials and processes; process engineering and scale-up. Speciality Materials: polymers, particles, polymer composites and dispersions, and coatings for a wide array of applications. Services: materials design and synthesis/formulation; chemical process engineering and materials scale-up to develop manufacturable processes; and specialty materials supply.
