The main research areas include machine vision, robotics grasping and manipulation, human robot interaction, rehabilitation robotics, mechatronics, and robot learning. Application areas include service robots in agriculture and health care as well as traditional applications of robotics in manufacturing, food processing, and automotive.
Advanced Sensing, Internet of Things
The institute has expertise in developing advanced sensing techniques, mainly software, for applications in robotics.
The institute has significant capabilities in developing intelligent robotics systems for applications in cluttered and poorly defined environments using advanced machine vision and grasping techniques. we also have expertise in working with collaborative robots and different robot programming tools.
It is typically very difficult to add automation to food processing due to the complex and varied nature of the products and strict standards on health, production, and quality. The institute has collaborated with food manufacturers to bring novel automation technologies into this challenging domain. Our technologies can greatly improve efficiency in the plants and the quality of processed foods. This, in turn, will ultimately increase the value of the foods to both our industry partners and the consumer. The institute has also worked with automotive manufacturer to develop advanced bin picking solutions for picking non-rigid objects and in highly cluttered situations.
